2015 was another packed year for FGDP(WM) starting with the Divisional Directors conference in January. This was a great opportunity for me to meet other Divisions and touch base with the Dean and Faculty staff. Next up the Dentistry Show, where we helped out on the Faculty stand and met some of our members.
Throughout the year we have had a wide range of events and educational days. The MJDF study days continue to be very popular with a good percentage of participants going on to pass the MJDF examinations. In 2015 the Fellowship tutors were involved with Central Faculty in producing a number of live online lectures that were well received.
We repeated a couple of popular hands on courses and we were very pleased to welcome Professor Brian Millar and Coltene for their hands on smile design course. Another top speaker this year was Dr Linda Greenwall, a specialist in tooth whitening techniques, who joined us for our Divisional Study Day.
Members wishing to get up to date with Law and Ethics were able to join our series of sessions held in Birmingham and it was great to see a full house in early December. This series will continue in 2016.
I personally finished the year with my favourite event in our calendar, the presentation of the John Gilmour Award for excellence in the Foundation Dentist training year and the Peter Lowndes Prize for excellence in the Foundation Therapist training year. This year we were again pleased to be able to attend the BDA Central Counties Branch Study and welcome Mrs Gilmour and Professor Nairn Wilson (BDA President) to present our prizes.
Overall we are a very successful and active division and I would like to thank all of the Board members for working so hard to make 2015 a great year. We have lots of great ideas for 2016 so watch this space.
